ABOUT BENETTON

Benetton Formula Ltd., commonly referred to simply as Benetton, was a Formula One constructor that participated from 1986 to 2001. The team was owned by the Benetton family who run a worldwide chain of clothing stores of the same name. In 2000 the team was purchased by Renault, but competed as Benetton for the 2001 season. In 2002 the team became Renault F1.The Benetton Group entered in Formula One as a sponsor company for Tyrrell in 1983, then Alfa Romeo in 1984 and 1985 and finally Toleman in 1985. Benetton Formula Ltd. was formed at the end of 1985 when the Toleman team was sold to the Benetton family. The team began with BMW engines and then later switched to Ford.

The team was managed by Flavio Briatore from 1990 until 1997. Rocco Benetton, the youngest son of Luciano Benetton joined the team as aerodynamics engineer in 1998 and fired Briatore. He replaced him with Prodrive boss David Richards, who lasted only for a year when he too was fired, due to a disagreement with the Benetton family about future strategy. Following Richards' departure, Rocco Benetton managed the team for three years until its sale to Renault. Rocco Benetton successfully managed to achieve an unheard of salesprice in F1 terms.

The Benetton team is best known for its success with Michael Schumacher, who accounts for 19 of the team's 27 career victories and their 2 drivers' championships.

ABOUT DESCENTE

In the 1986 Tour de France, American Greg LeMond raced to victory. The world deemed it a fluke. The following year, when an upstart American team, clad in Descente clothing, put its young American captain, Andy Hampsten on top of the podium at the Tour of Switzerland, the world took note. Then, in 1988, that same skinny kid from North Dakota, riding for that same Descente-wearing 7-Eleven team won the Giro d’Italia in a dramatic snowstorm over the Gavia Pass. The world had changed.

7-Eleven’s indomitable team spirit, innovative approaches and savvy tactics altered the cycling scene forever. The team personified the concept of cutting edge, always doing things differently, right down to the very clothing it raced and trained in.

The predecessors to the team’s Descente clothing was created back in Osaka in 1935 when Takeo Ishimoto launched the modern technical apparel revolution. The brand came to North America in 1979. The brand categories of cycling, running, and fitness were revived by former pro bike racer Hugh Walton in 2002. Since 2008, Veltec Sports has been the proud licensee of the Descente brand in North America and Europe.

The Descente “Spirit” logo, comprised of three arrows, represents the multi-dimensional and ceaseless pursuit of perfection in sporting apparel: function, innovation and quality, tied together through integrity. The power of the Descente brand continues to grow as seventy years of experience and collective passion for sports drives the ongoing mission to craft the finest technical apparel available today.
